Mike Wright Road Superintendent and Dennis Blackburn Fire Chief also attended. No. 49 Moved By Jeff Middleton Seconded By P.A. Palonen That the minutes of the last council meeting held on April 3rd. 2006 be approved as circulated. Carried KN No. 50 Moved By P.A. Palonen Seconded By Jeff Middleton That we approve payment of the Fire Department accounts list of $260.69. Carried KN No. 51 Moved By Jeff Middleton Seconded By P.A. Palonen That we support the Burpee/Mills Fire Department’s installation of a dry hydrant. Carried KN No. 52 Moved By Jeff Middleton Seconded By P.A. Palonen Seconded By Jeff Middleton RESOLUTION Whereas there are approximately on million (1,000,000) tires located on Zhiibaahaasing First Nation Land on Manitoulin Island. And Whereas these tires represent a serious threat to Manitoulin Island, the North Shore communities, Cockburn Island, the North Channel, and Lake Huron in the form of fire, health concerns, and west nile virus. And Whereas Manitoulin Island communities do not have the required resources to combat a fire of this magnitude. And Whereas the economic and environmental impact of a tire fire on Manitoulin and surrounding areas would be devastating, And Whereas Zhiibaahaasing First Nation has no immediate plans in place for the processing or removal of these tires. Therefore be it resoled that the Corporation of the Township of Burpee and Mills demand that all necessary steps be taken for the immediate removal of all tires from the Zhibaahaasing First Nation and legislation be put in place to regulate the stockpiling of tires on federally designated land. Palonen RESOLUTION WHEREAS the Corporation of the County of Prince Edward has passed Resolution dated April 10, 2006 resolving: That The Council of Prince Edward requests the Provincial and Federal Governments to take immediate action to address the current, unprecedented farm income crisis; That they provide immediate and sufficient financial support to ensure the planting of this year’s crops and a fair return from this year’s farm commodities; That all levels of government across Canada meet the farm organizations to develop long term strategies to resolve farm issues, including but not necessarily limited to: supply management support, income stabilization and orderly marketing; AND WHEREAS the Corporation of the Township of Burpee and Mills is in support of this resolution; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOVED that the Corporation of the Township of Burpee and Mills supports the Corporation of the County of Prince Edward’s Resolution.
